Sitka, Alaska is located on Baranof Island, one of the largest islands in the Alexander Archipelago complex and is covered by the largest temperate rain forest in the world.
Due to the Japanese current, Sitka has a relatively mild climate, with temperatures ranging from 50 – 75 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer to 0 – 45 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter.
Sitka averages 95 inches of rain per year, with the fall and winter months averaging more rainfall than the spring and summer months. Sitka is blessed with protected harbors and waterways, yet has easy access to the marine life of the open ocean. These qualities made it a center of early Tlingit culture, as well as the center of the Russian colonial presence in Southeast Alaska. Today, its historical interest, museums and parks make it an ideal vacation destination for your wildlife / fishing experience.

Sitka is located on Baranof Island in Southeast Alaska. Baranof Island has a land mass size that is equal to that of Rhode Island and is located about 93 miles southwest of Juneau, the state’s capitol. Baranof Island is largely uninhabited, Sitka takes up only a small portion of the island and has an average population of around 9,000. During the summer that can swell to as much as 12,000.
